WAIPUKURAU LAWN TENNIS & SQUASH CLUB

CLUB RULES

Members have access to the facility via the Pay2play coded door/gate entry system.  Each member is allocated an individual entry code and the system keeps an audit of when your code has been used so, please do not share your code - Your Door/Gate entry code is for your use only.

You may bring a potential new member down for 2 free sessions after which members must register their opponent as a non-member casual via Pay2play and pay the playing fee of $7.50 per session or join the Club via Pay2Play.

Court bookings are to be made via the pay2play website – www.pay2play.co.nz

Remember we are a members’ club – we do welcome and offer opportunities for non-members
at select times to attend a number of club-run events and activities during the year.

 

COURT BOOKINGS

 

•             To avoid missing out on a court you can book a court online. Bookings made online will have priority over someone who hasn't booked a court.  You could be asked to move to another court if the court has been booked online.

 

•             Use of a court is only guaranteed by Pre-Booking the court online at www.pay2play.co.nz

 

•             Concurrent booking (double bookings) are not allowed to allow other members a chance to play. 

 

•             Late Arrival on Court - A court not in use 10 minutes after the booked starting time is free for use by any member. A court becomes immediately free for use at the end of the booked finishing time.

 

  • Members may play visiting members of an affiliated club.

 

SECURITY
 

  • Please do not to leave any valuables unattended within the changing rooms to help reduce the risk of damage or theft. Safe boxes are located on the doors to Squash Courts 1 & 2 for storage of valuables while you play eg. phones, keys or wallet.

 

  • Lost property will be stored & displayed in the Committee room – Please ask a committee member if you need to retrieve an item.

 

  • Any damage to Club property is to be reported as soon as possible to a Committee member. This includes damage caused by a Members Visitor. The cost of repairs may be passed to the Member if deemed appropriate by the Committee.

 

  • Club security remains the responsibility of all Members. The last Member left is to check all external doors & outside gates are locked, and all lights are turned off. The Bar must be locked and alarmed by a Committee Member or the Bar Manager.

 

  • Mis-use of Club Facilities, vandalism, theft and violence, both actual and/or implied, may result in the Termination of Membership. Termination will be decided by the Management Committee following the club’s appropriate Policy.

DRESS & BEHAVIOUR

 

•             An appropriate standard of sportswear is required to be worn for both sports, including non-marking sneakers for squash and a sports sneaker for tennis. Members & visitors are to adhere to these rules.

 

•             Good sportsmanship & behaviour is required for all persons within the club. This includes Members, members’ family & all visitors at the club.

 

•          Children are welcome at the Club, but Parents/Caregivers, please, you must ensure that your children are properly supervised, as they are your responsibility at all times. Some safety rules for children are as follows:

 

  1. Inside area  - (during graded squash games) - please keep as quiet as possible  in the spectator area,  and we ask that children are refrained from running around, so the players can concentrate on their game.

 

  1. Outside area (tennis courts) – children are only allowed to climb on to the first level of branches on the trees, and not allowed on to the corrugated iron fences
     

SUBSCRIPTIONS

 

  • Intending members should go to the Pay2Play website, hit the Waipukurau Tennis & Squash Club box, and request to be a Member. Please see our ‘How to become a member of the Waipukurau Tennis & Squash Club’ card – located downstairs on the shelf.

 

  • Where membership subscriptions are being renewed, the member’s door entry code will not be activated until full payment has been completed. For all membership enquiries contact Ash Fleming – 0226139321.

 

  • An annual subscription is paid to retain membership in the club. 

 

  • If a member wishes to resign from the club, please let a Committee member know in advance.  Resignation from the club does NOT relieve a member of liability for outstanding subscriptions.  Outstanding subscriptions become a debt to the club.  These must be paid before that person can become a member again.
     

  • If a member leaves the district for one year, please let the Committee know and ask to become an “Honorary” member.  This means that the member’s name will be retained in the database for a small fee.
     

  • Refund of membership money will be at the discretion of the Management Committee. Refunds may only be made under extenuated circumstances.

Tennis

Summer Tennis Programme:
 

Hot Shots Programme for Junior Members

The club runs a national skill based program tennis program called Hot Shots for children aged 5 to 7 yrs old, where they learn through play appropriate to their age and stage.

 

Junior Tennis Coaching

Private lessons at the club are run every night during the summer terms. This is run by professional coaches concentrating on technique and tactical game play. The coaching programme at this club coaches 50 children each year.

 

Junior Inter-school Tennis Competition

This inter-school competition is run at the local tennis clubs (Waipukurau, Waipawa & Takapau) in Term one & four. This allows all primary aged children to play competition tennis, starting from about 9yrs old. It is a graded competition, to help make it even for the children, and to grow their confidence and enjoyment of the game. Singles & Doubles are played on each Monday night, and team points gained for wins. It normally runs for about 8 – 9 weeks of the term. Ladies Social Summer Tennis – Tuesday 5.30pm

In the summer months, ladies players are put in teams of 10-12, with a team captain. 9 – 10 courts are filled each week. This is a graded competition for all abilities, starting at 5.30pm sharp on Tuesdays. It’s a great way to meet new people, to play a great sport, to switch off from busy days. New players welcome. Men’s Social Summer Tennis – Wednesday 5.30pm

This is a very popular competition, with at least 15 courts played on, including private courts around town. It is run the same as ladies tennis above. Contact person; Elliot Peacock – 8588253 prior to daylight saving date.

 

Mixed Double’s Competition – Monday 5.30pm

For those that are keen on extra tennis – more court time, mixed doubles is being run for 6 week blocks (Feb-March + Oct-Nov).  Contact persons; Kim Cooper – 0272466628 + Jen Evans - 0211744933

 

Cardio Tennis & Tennis Express – Week days

Cardio Tennis is run at the club during the winter months only. This is a fun fitness workout (1 hour only) on court where everyone is active and in engaging, and cool music is booming over the court. Cardio Tennis caters to all ability levels and is a great way to encourage people back into tennis.

 

Interclub Competitions available to tennis players:

  • A Senior Ladies Interclub Tennis Competition is played all over HB, on Thursday mornings Oct – Dec, & Feb – March.

  • Thump 2’s Competition played from August – September.

  • Four person Interclub – Saturdays, October – November.

  • Sunday Doubles Interclub – Sundays, once a month from Feb – July.

 

Tennis Club Championships;

Singles, Doubles + Mixed Doubles Club Championship competitions are played at the end of each tennis season, normally filling up the weekends in late February + March.

Squash

SQUASH CLUB NIGHTS – MONDAY nights from 5.30pm till late from Mid-February through to December.  All members are welcome to participate.  Non-members are also welcome for $5 per night. Games are allocated according to those present.  This is a great way to meet other members and learn some new skills.

NO CLUB NIGHTS HELD ON PUBLIC HOLIDAYS – However courts are still available for casual bookings.
 

SQUASH INTERCLUB - Interclub is a competition organised between Hawke’s Bay clubs for all levels of players.  Interclub is played at night, starting at 7pm, Ladies interclub is on a TUESDAY night and Mixed Interclub on a WEDNESDAY night.  Generally teams consist of four players each week and teams travel to other clubs for home and away games each round. 

 

SOCIAL SQUASH COMPETITION – This is open to members and non-members and is run over a 6 week period, 3 times a year generally on a THURSDAY night.  Teams consist of 3 players who play consecutively for 20mins each (5 min warm-up, 15 min game)

Three grades on offer: Beginners, Social & Competitive.  We have some rackets available for any new comers and offer a couple of coaching sessions in the lead up to the first game to get you up to speed on the rules.

 

TOURNAMENTS – Waipukurau Tennis & Squash Club holds an annual squash tournament in MARCH for Junior’s & Open Grades.  Squash Eastern puts out an annual calendar showing ALL of the tournaments throughout the Region.  This can be viewed on the noticeboard downstairs or on their website.  

 

CLUB CHAMPS - This tournament runs mid Oct from a Friday night through to Saturday afternoon (some games may be required to play on a Thursday night depending on numbers), where you will play against players in your grade or of similar ability (if ungraded).  This competition is open to members only and graded sections will play for points for your wins and points deducted for your losses (see the iSQUASH grading list or the points calculator).

Club members are required to bring a plate (salad or sweet) and to help during the tournament, in the bar, tournament control, or help out in the kitchen to prepare supper and clean up after dinner on the last day of the tournament.  More information will be sent out closer to the time.

 

CLUB RUN SOCIAL EVENTS  - These are designed as “fun squash” events to have a run around and a laugh, stay for a drink and dinner.  Generally held on a Saturday afternoon we strive to hold an event at least once a quarter.  We welcome new ideas it doesn’t have to always be squash related… just an afternoon of fun!! See Squash Events Calendar downstairs.

 

DEVELOPMENT – We have scheduled Coaching & SquashFit sessions available during the year and this is dependent on coach availability as all our coaches are also players and have lives outside of squash – see the Club Squash Events Calendar on the noticeboard downstairs.

 

JUNIORS PROGRAMME (NEW) – Starting up in Term 2 we will be offering coaching support to Central Hawke’s Bay College Students interested in playing squash.  This will consist of 8 weeks of coaching on Tuesdays 3.30pm - 5.00pm, with fun games and activities as well as the opportunity to join in the Winter Mixed Social Competition.

 

LADIES NIGHT – NEW Tuesday’s 5.30 – 7.00PM

New to the club we are trialing a separate Ladies Night which will run for 4 weeks April/May.  Depending on continued attendance and interest this will be extended indefinitely.  Social games and coaching available.
